My EDM 310 Blog Assignments are Now Complete

Good bye my fellow classmates I hope we will make all A's

Good Luck in your future careers!!!!

EDM 310 Spring 2008 TT 1100

I want to thank Dr Strange for the experience in this class. I have at times disliked this class because it cause me to use my brain. Overall I have learned a great deal from this class. The only thing I would change would be to have the instructional videos early in the class. I would also like to spend more time on items that we will be tested on. I am a hands on person so I need a little more instruction.

I was introduced to Picasa and I entered a Photography Contest. I would have never done the things otherwise. The only thing about this class is it makes you think, and think hard. I never ever would have made a website!!!! I thought that was for real computer people. I don't know what my grade is yet so we will hold that thought. I liked the powerpoint too. And the tri-fold brochure, I don't think I will remember how to do that. Thank You Dr Strange!!!!!

This Class Gave me Fits in a good Way

We are nearing the end of this class!!!!! Some of it I liked. Some of it was very hard to me, but we are going to make it.

Good Information but can you trust Wickipedia?

Wikipedia is a good source of information but you have to be careful because any one can edit the information. I don't think this is a good idea because some one can put false information about any topic or person and cause someone to get some bad information. Some people advise against using Wickepedia because the information may be unreliable.
I believe in the freedom of information but I want fact and reliable information.
It would be bad if alot if bad information was spread all over the internet. There should be some kind of control over how the information is submitted.

Using iPods in the Classroom.

The use of iPods in the classroom for instructional purposes was a very good idea. First, it took a piece of technology that is very available and turned it into a learning tool. Students use the devices for recording lectures, making oral notes, and making electronic flashcards. The iPod has changed the way the student takes notes and even the way they present research papers.

Instructors have to plan and design content to use the device. This looks like we are moving toward the technical age even in the classroom. Students can also communicate through podcasts and review notes on a lecture that they didn't quite hear or understand. They can also download lecture material. Instructors were asked if this caused attendance to go down and they stated just the opposite. Use of the iPod increase attendance and interest in the class material. About 75% of the freshman at Duke University use iPods for their academic work.

WHY WIRELESS?

Reading the Fischbowl 2007 May entry was about the Arapahoe High School going wireless. The High School offers the wireless access Monday-Friday. Some people didn't like the idea, but for the most part it was a hit. This plays a part in people using technology. By them offering wireless access not only did the students benefit but the parents and other adults in the community are allowed to use it. The wireless access is also good for the teachers who use blogging and make their assignments.

This wireless access also give the students and teachers the opportunity to use the Internet outside the straight arrow time of Monday-Friday 7:20-2:16. Life does occur outside this time. The web can be used as a good communication and informational tool and the wi-fi gives all a chance to use the information. The web also has a wealth of online resources that the teachers can browse and use the ones that will best fit their approach to teaching.

DON'T Be Afraid Of The Computer!!

If the educators become more familiar with technology, then they would feel more comfortable with using it in the classroom. Teachers should accept the idea because technology is moving forward. And some of our children are being left behind because the teachers are "technically illiterate. What a shame. There is so much out there for the kids to learn.

WE USE COMPUTERS EVERWHERE SO WE NEED THE KNOW HOW!!!!!

The world has become a very very technical place. If a person makes a decision that they want to become an educator, they should take it upon themselves to get the technical background needed to implement the technology in their classroom. It almost seems like it is a moral duty to learn and teach with technology. Technology has become an important piece of all our daily lives.
Teaching using computers as tools will help teach lifelong skills and permit the children to grow and not be intimidated by technology. One thing the Government should do is have computers put in ALL elementary schools and school districts should develop their curriculum to support it.

Mr Randall From Brazil

Mr Randall is from Brazil and he teaches English as second language. His blog covers more than just education. He talks about life. He gives the students information about a variety of topics. He only lets them use English on the blog, which is good if you are using this as a teaching tool for another language. Mr Randall designed the site so the students could improve their skills with using the English language.

International Teacher Uses Blog for Special Students

This is a blog from a teacher in China. She teaches at the Gao Chun Special School of Deaf and Disabled Children. She posts pictures and information for the different events that they participate in. The blog also contains information about projects and school work and achievements. The site is also designed so the deaf children can benefit from the information.

Mr P's Blog , An Arizona Principal's Point of View

I found this blog from a now principal, Steve Poling, who came up through the "trenches" of teaching. He now teaches a class to the teacher at DeGrazia Elementary School in Arizona on how to use the blog for their classes. He also uses the blog for them to communicate with him and allows them to vent about problems and issues with No Child Left Behind. Steve Poling thought the whole process of implementing the blog for the classroom was going to be impossible but he found it worked out really well. The teachers and the students love it. It takes the class off the blackboard and gives the children a different approach to learning.

Teachers That Use Blogs in the Classroom!!

I found the blog created by Vicki Davis for her students in Georgia. Her blogspot
is called the Cool Cat Teacher Blog. It is full of so much information for the students, parents and other teachers. This blog won the 2006 EduBlog award for best Educational Blog. Vicki Davis also includes numerous links for information for others teachers and administrators. From reading the posts the students love what they get from the blog. This was a excellent way to bring technology into the classroom, plus she said she wanted to make learning fun and interesting. It also got the students more familiar with using the computer.

ACCESS for Alabama gives Education a BOOST!!!

ACCESS, Alabama Connecting Classroom, Educators and Student Access is a very very good and needed boost for the Educational System in the State of Alabama. A program initiated by Gov. Riley and State Superintendent of Education, Dr Joseph B. Morton, developed to provide distance learning programs to provide access to high quality instruction and courses that are not provided or available to high school students in the state of Alabama. This program also provides exposure to technical and internet based advanced coursework not offered or available from certified teachers in the state or area in which the student lives. When I watched the presentation I immediately thought about the very rural areas located in this state and this gives those students the opportunity to get the same exposure and quality education that city schools and schools with better budgets get.

ACCESS also provides teachers with multimedia and technology tools that they can use as supplements to their curriculum. The Human Resource availability also allows teachers to apply and teach courses that there may not be a certified teacher for that course in the area. There are additional links for teachers, parents and students to use. ACCESS is provided through Federal and State funding and there are presently 113 active labs available statewide.

Alabama Learning Exchange Assignment II

I would use ALEX for various reasons in the classroom. One main reason is it it free to all students no matter their socioeconomic background. ALEX contains various courses of study to choose from. The Distance Learning would be used to provide for students with limited access of course offerings. This would be good for students preparing for college but do not have access to some of the materials needed in their school district. The Lesson Plans would be the one I would use the most. I would design quizzes and research projects according to some of the wealth of information provided by ALEX.

Web links for teachers, administrators, and student in categories such as English, Science, and Mathematics would provide students extra tutorials and materials that they can access outside the classroom and devote the time needed to study areas that they are weak in. The information provided on the Web links will also help the students study for standardized tests. There is also a category for Career and Technical development that I would recommended my students use to maybe decide a career path for themselves. This web link could give the access to in depth information on possible areas to choose from for a career.

Alabama Learning Exchange Assignment

Alabama Learning Exchange (ALEX) is a resource and informational website that provides a variety of resource material for teachers, administrators, parents and students. ALEX is designed to access many types of information for educators, parents, and students. ALEX also provides material for Professional and Distance Learning.

As a teacher, I would utilize the Lesson Plan information provided. I would also use the web links to give my students information to research in the subject that I would be teaching and I would try to make the assignments interesting and fun. I would give the students projects that they would have to use the virtual library. This would also familiarize them with using the computer and the various web links.

The Movie

The clip we watched for class was mind blowing. The United States is falling so far behind the other countries in technology. If we are not careful, we will be considered a Third World country in technology and language. I already knew that we are one of the only countries that still teach one language. Most places in the world I have visited, the people knew English plus their native tongue and another language.
